Water damage restoration and cleaning in Newark, NJ

On 1 September 2021 the remnants of Hurricane Ida delivered 8.44 inches of rain, the wettest day in the city's recorded history, and 23 people died across New Jersey.

That storm is the reference point for restoration work in this city because it tested every kind of building Newark has. The nineteenth century rowhouses of the East Ward and the Ironbound took water into century old plaster and stacked floors. The Forest Hill houses took it into deep basements. Much of Newark drains through a combined system that carries sewage and storm water in the same pipes, which is normal for a city of this age and matters enormously after a heavy rain. Forest Hill holds larger single houses with deep basements and colonial era detailing that dries slowly. The Central Ward carries institutional buildings and newer construction alongside the old. The South Ward around Weequahic is largely early twentieth century single and two family housing. The North Ward has residential towers where a single failed riser can affect a vertical line of apartments.
